Dear Friend,

I suppose that you are reading this letter, or have arrived at this site because a family member or loved one has suffered a traumatic injury.  As a family who has experienced a devastating injury, Cari and I know where you’ve been and can hopefully help guide you along your recovery path.

As a family, we know that all of the things involved in the recovery process can be overwhelming.  We are walking your walk, and working together we can help you establish a community of support.  Cari and I have been in your situation, we can be that shoulder to lean on!

In 2001, our son, Brandon suffered a traumatic brain injury while making some poor choices with some friends while driving a car.  His injuries were so devastating we weren’t sure if he would survive the night.  Being in the rehabilitation business I knew that his injuries would require not only months but years of comprehensive rehabilitation.

Brandon recovered in a great program in Central California after not being given much hope in his initial hospital stay.  But the fact that Brandon and Cari had to leave Arizona for six months was difficult for us as a family.  We had a tough time realizing

that quality programs were not available for Brandon in Arizona.  We also realized that we were willing to pay and do whatever was necessary to give Brandon a chance for recovery.

Cari and I also know what powerful things that can happen when families come together during these trying times.  Through her advocacy for Brandon, Cari was able to change an insurance company’s entire philosophy and policy regarding coverage of traumatic injuries.  We know that as The Next Step Foundation continues to grow and gather more friends, we can lend a hand to ease the pain for families.

The Next Step Foundation’s Mission is to help all who have suffered a traumatic injury or illness, receive quality, loving rehabilitation and help with financial assistance and advocacy when insurance coverage runs out and families become overwhelmed.  Also to help create facilities, where everyone can continue the recovery process.  This is our way of giving back.

Remember whatever you do, do something!  Cari and I at times felt frozen, but as we kept moving, things would happen.  Have faith in God and yourselves and make things happen!

God Bless

Cari and Arnie Fonseca
